Our Core Purpose
Founded in the 1970s, the Chestnut Hill Library Friends is dedicated to promoting the needs and values of our library. The Friends raises funds to support the library.
Our mission is to support the Chestnut Hill Library branch and to promote literacy, encourage lifelong learning, and inspire curiosity.
Our activities have included book sales, a speaker series, author events, kids storytimes, and much more. In 2021, The Friends opened Hilltop Books. Proceeds from Hilltop Books are channeled to the Chestnut Hill Library branch.
What We Fund
The Chestnut Hill Library Friends has grown into an organization of more than a hundred households. Members contribute thousands of hours to support the Library through fundraising events, garden maintenance, shelving books, assisting librarians, running Hilltop Books, and planning events to build Library use and awareness.
Money raised by the Friends has enabled the Friends to:
- Purchase books, periodicals, DVDs and CDs for the library collections
- Offer funds for speakers and refreshments at adult and children’s programs
- Maintain a beautiful garden featuring a variety of native plants at the library
- Enhancements in the library’s physical structure
- Provide new library furniture, including bookcases, magazine & display racks, and an atlas stand
- Support children, teens, and adult summer reading programs
- Other needed equipment and supplies not provided by the city’s budget
- Advocate for full funding for the library by pressing elected officials and other leaders to stand for our libraries!
- Cultivate a community of readers and lifelong learners alongside community partners and leaders
